Link Wray

Link Wray, inventor of the power chord, died today at the age of 76.

If you were to believe his official site, we lost a great legend. While the influence of the power chord is quite omnipresent, that's pretty much about it. I'm not terribly sure that he ever used the power chord for anything that could pass for great rock and roll. Still though, maybe what little coverage Wray's passing will receive will help today's pimple-rock and whine-punk fans realize that the power chord was indeed not invented by Green Day.
